AN EVENING WITH Sam Sweeney, Fiddle player with Bellowhead | 'HELP LEIGH FOLK FESTIVAL RETURN’

Come along and spend an informal evening with Sam Sweeney, fiddle player for Bellowhead, while helping Leigh Folk Festival return in 2025

BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards 2019 – Nominated Musician Of The Year

Sam is a veteran of the mighty Bellowhead, former and inaugural artistic director of the National Youth Folk Ensemble, founder member of the acclaimed instrumental trio Leveret, and “Britain’s Premier Fiddler” (Songlines), at the forefront of the revival in English traditional music.

After taking to the road for his first totally solo tour in 2023, Sam Sweeney is embarking on another tour… just him and a fiddle for an intimate evening of solo fiddle tunes and stories.

This tour is a rare opportunity to spend an informal evening with “one of the defining fiddle players of his generation” - Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2.

“The fiddler with the Midas touch… an English equivalent of the great Irish fiddle player Martin Hayes.” **** The Guardian

“Sweeney’s playing is unearthly at times: the singular focus of this set and the level of its performance makes this an outstanding and deeply moving experience.” ***** - Songlines

A performance not to be missed! You can enjoy this top-tier musical performance while also contributing to the revival of Leigh Folk Festival. Together, we can bring back this cherished celebration of music, culture, and community.

Join Us to Revive the Leigh Folk Festival in 2025!

Leigh Folk Festival, a beloved community event, needs your support to return in 2025! We're hosting a special fundraising event featuring three incredible acts, and we invite you to join us for an unforgettable evening of music and community spirit.

M.G. Boulter

A local treasure, M.G. Boulter is a songwriter and musician from Leigh whose reputation is growing nationwide. Having collaborated with artists like Conor Oberst, Neil McSweeney, and Paul Heaton, Boulter's talent has graced prestigious stages such as the Royal Albert Hall. His latest album, ‘Clifftown’, offers a unique exploration of English seaside suburbia, blending vivid imagery of neon lights and seafronts with the solitary charm of Essex's saltmarsh.

2WaL

Mark Schubert's latest project, 2WaL, showcases his relentless creativity and musical innovation. Known as a ‘musical alchemist’ and pioneer of the ‘heavy western’ sound, Schubert’s one-man army of songs promises a dynamic and captivating performance.

Cable Car

Michelle Bappoo's latest musical endeavor, Cable Car, takes a folk turn, highlighting her silken voice and sure-footed songwriting. Her gentle aesthetic and poignant lyrics will provide a soulful addition to the evening's lineup.
