The Goldmaster Allstars is a vibrant and dynamic 10-piece band performing laid-back rock steady, heavy roots reggae and ska instrumentals. In a long anticipated and welcome return to the Leigh Folk Festival, this will be the band’s first live show following a prolonged hiatus due to illness. From the start of the 21st century The Goldmaster Allstars have become a growing force on the UK & World music scene backing and supporting some of our top reggae and ska names; Greats including Alton Ellis, Michael Prophet, The Pioneers, Dennis Alcapone, Tena Stelin, Owen Gray, Winston Francis, Winston Reedy, and AJ Franklin. The band’s sound borrows heavily from the Jamaican reggae scene although they rarely perform covers. The band has gained the experience and knowledge to develop their own sound and become one of the best live acts on the British ska/reggae circuit today. Flea magazine reports — ‘Ska! Whether you are an aficionado of this up tempo Jamaican music or if you are listening to ska for the first time, experiencing The Goldmaster Allstars cannot help but put a smile on your face. Harking back to the origins of the ska sound with a blistering 4 piece horn section, a stand-up bass and a dude of a percussionist, the band have developed their very own style which I can only encourage you to experience’. The band is kept strong because it is run as a co-operative and founder, Malcolm says ‘this is the way it works best for us; no one person makes the decisions. The whole band has a family vibe, we don’t feel we are just making music, we feel we are making a piece of history’.
