Stick in The Wheel

One of the best and most exciting acts to emerge in folk music for many a moon, Stick in the Wheel specialise in songs of their native London, rendered in an invigoratingly direct style. Reinvented traditional ballads sit alongside fierce, fine original songs by Nicola Kearey and Ian Carter, they are not so much a breath of fresh air as a full blown blast down the Thames. The band was nominated in two separate categories in this year’s 2015 BBC Radio Two Folk Awards.

‘We play the music of our people. We sing in our own accents. We record in our kitchens and living rooms. This is our culture, our tradition’.

“Inspirationally abrasive” The Guardian

“The hottest new folk band for ages…” Ian Anderson, fRoots magazine
