Poetry by candle light at this years festival

Thursday 22nd June

St Clements Church

8pm

Free Admission.

We in Southeast Essex are very fortunate to have an abundance of splendid Poets and none more so than here in Leigh-on-Sea. Therefore last year it was decided to bring many of those wordsmiths together as part of the commencement of our annual Folk Festival on the Thursday evening.

Following on from what proved to be a successful  evening in the calm candle lit surrounds of St Clements, the Parish Church of Leigh, we are pleased to again promote this event as part of the official extensive four day Leigh Folk Festival programme.

This is a ‘Come all Ye’ open Mic’ event and indeed all are welcome to participate with your own or others works; otherwise just come listen and enjoy a relaxing and entertaining evening.

The evening will be hosted by local professional Storyteller and all round entertainer Peter Monk aka Peter Optical.

Although now semi retired Peter is a veteran performer, in one guise or another, of such Folk festivals as Sidmouth, Towersey, Chippenham and Cambridge, to name but a few, as well as a few Royal engagements under his belt.

Peter has been a loyal supporter of the festival since its conception 26 years ago ; is on the organising committee and oversees the spoken word events at committee level as well as being responsible for the stage lighting rig at all the Festival events in St Clements Church where he is an assistant church warden and an elected member of the Parochial Church Council.
